Three Entrants Garner $1,000 for Their Schools to Hold ‘Green Class Party’
Islip, NY – Islip Town Councilman John Edwards, who chairs the Town’s Clean Energy Committee, is pleased to announce the winners of Habberstad BMW’s Green Essay Contest:
Jaclyn Citarella of Bayview Elementary School is the winner in grades 3 and 4; Fariha Bhuiyan of Brentwood South Middle School is the winner in grades 5 and 6; and Shreeya Panigrahi of Sayville Middle School is the winner in grades 7 and 8.
The entrants wrote essays describing how they worked to keep their home, school and local community green. The contest was sponsored by Habberstad BMW and the winners were selected by the Town of Islip’s Clean Energy Committee. Each of the winners' schools received a check for $1,000 to be used towards a Green Class Party.
“I was very impressed with all of the essays we received from students” stated Councilman Edwards. “Clearly our young people are aware and actively working to lessen any adverse impact their daily lives have on our planet.”
“Today is a special day for the Town of Islip, The Clean Energy Committee, and Habberstad BMW. We affirm our commitment to helping younger generations understand the impact we all have on our environment, and how empowered they are to change the world for the better,” stated Jeremy Alicandri, Executive Vice President of the Habberstad Auto Group. “We at Habberstad BMW would like to thank all the students who submitted essays, our three contest winners, Jaclyn Citarella, Fariha Bhuiyan, and Shreeya Panigrahi, Councilman Edwards and his fine staff, and the Town of Islip Clean Energy Committee for making this essay contest a tremendous success.”
Habberstad BMW of Bay Shore held a check presentation for the winners on June 4 at 4 p.m.
